I became interested in SEN and took on my first SENCO role in 2002, completing a post graduate qualification in SEN, as well as the mandatory qualification for teachers of the vision impaired and the national Braille qualification. I also hold the National Professional Qualification for Headship and have experience on several school senior leadership teams.

I have worked in the Education Departments of two of Merseyside’s local authorities and have served as a governor or associate governor in five schools. I am currently a governor at Crosby High Specialist School and an associate governor at St Robert Bellarmine Primary School in Bootle.

Outside of my job and voluntary roles, most of my spare time is taken up with family, friends or walking my badly behaved dogs!

Like everyone I know, I was inspired by the mission of Elsie’s family and friends to bring people together and create positive change through Elsie’s Story, a charity underpinned by kindness and compassion. The Elsie Squad work with tireless energy and determination supporting children to experience joy and happiness, irrespective of their circumstance.

It was an honour to be asked to contribute and I have been made to feel very welcome since joining the board of trustees. I hope my experience will be of some use to the charity and look forward to seeing the continuing impact and lasting legacy, through each beautiful chapter of Elsie’s Story.
