Ruth

My experience has given me a broad range of skills and perspectives that I hope add real value to my role as a trustee for Elsie’s Story. Working in teams and leading large numbers of people across a wide variety of environments has shaped my leadership style. During a time of increasing austerity in Defence, I’ve also developed a strong ability to be resourceful and make the most of limited resources.

I often think of Andy Dufresne in one of my favourite films, The Shawshank Redemption – keep asking, and eventually someone will send you the books! I genuinely believe there’s a solution to most problems if you’re prepared to keep looking for it.

Outside of work, I’m a keen sportsperson and passionate about health and fitness. Never one to shy away from a challenge, I’ve recently competed in Hyrox events and enjoy testing my fitness in new ways.

I’m married to Fran, and our two children attend Farnborough Road School, where I also serve as a Governor at the infant school.
